Advice & tips on using social media
March 17, 2022Advice & tips on using social media
March 17, 2022Step 1....
Set up your social media accounts
USERNAME (your handle, 30 characters in length!)
If you are starting from scratch, what are you going to call your business/clinic?
Use something simple to spell and memorable for your username handle! Sometimes having a name that does what it says on the tin works really well.
Do some research to check if the username you have found and want to use, is available on all the social media accounts you wish to use so you have consistency and continuity.
Facebook Business page
Create a Facebook business page and populate it with pictures of your work, your clinic, you practicing on skins, quotes about your treatments, testimonials, etc. Make sure you share it on your personal accounts and encourage your family and friends to comment and like on your post for maximum engagement.
Local town/community Facebook groups
Join local town Facebook groups to advertise your clinic! Most community forums have rules on advertising businesses, most have set days e.g. Mondays where local businesses can promote their goods and services. There are usually very specific business forums which tend to have no restrictions - but always check the forum rules to avoid being suspended from posting.
You can also directly promote your clinic by keeping active on these forums to see whether anyone is searching for particular treatments or asking for particular gift ideas. If you do vouchers (eg it's Mother's Day approaching), try mentioning it on that person’s post.
If these requests are not as frequent, you can also get a friend to ask whether anyone in the area offers the services you offer and you respond letting them know about your clinic (a cheeky way of advertising). If there are other clinic suggestions, this can help you discover the competition in your area too.
If you want to see more insights and start looking at your Instagram in more depth, you can create or switch to a professional account. It's not necessary, but benefits include having your industry show up on your profile and being able to include a contact button (phone or email address). There are two types of professional accounts:
Creator - if you work as an individual or freelance. Categories include Beauty, Cosmetic & Personal Care, Skin Care Service, Makeup Artist, Coach, Entrepreneur....
Business - if you have your own brand or company. Categories include Health/beauty, Product/service, Cosmetics store, Beauty Salon, Beauty Supplier, Hair Salon…
Instagram reels (a short video lasting 15 - 30 seconds) are a great way to maximise engagement with new accounts as they can appear on the reels discovery page and don’t forget about hashtags. If you create an creator account you will have more selection with music for reels which are trending.
Start with Facebook and Instagram first and then explore other social media sites like YouTube, Pinterest, TikTok and Twitter later. However, a lot does depend on your target demographic. Check out this great recent article by SproutSocial for demographic breakdowns by social platform. From our experience, and humble opinion, Twitter has the least interaction in our industry as clients seem to be more engaged and stimulated to imagery.
Personal account
To help grow your account, remember to post and repost your business page on your personal social media accounts to let your friends and family know that you are looking for models and that you have a business that offers these treatments.
Facebook in particular, can have more engagement as it logs when one of your friends and family have liked one of your images/updates and that shares to their network of friends and family.
Develop your brand
Decide on your logo, brand colours, font and tone of voice. Consistency among your platforms will help your followers quickly recognise your clinic and will make your overall platform look more aesthetically pleasing.
For logo designs, try using free creating content sites and apps first. You could always have a go at designing your own logo on Canva first to understand what you like and how you want your clinic to be represented, or maybe consider using a website like Fiverr where there are hundreds of designers at very affordable rates available.
Decide who your target audience is
When thinking of the tone of voice for your clinic, who are you appealing to? Who do you envision treating? What age group? What gender is more likely to step into your clinic? Where are they located? Why would they want your treatments?
Content ideas
- Before and afters (of course) - Share pictures of your work! Showing your clients what others' brows, eyes, lips, scalps etc. came from and where they are now helps PROVE to them, “this can work for you, too.”
- Pictures of you - Your potential clients will mostly book because of you (and your team). Do a short video introducing yourself (and your team), celebrate when you hit a yearly milestone of your business or when you trained in a treatment, talk about why you wanted to become a technician, there’s so many ways to incorporate your story into your social media.
- Video content - Videos are highly engaging for your followers to watch. Try filming yourself or asking someone to film you when you're next in action or film all angles of your finished brow, scalp or areola!
- Aftercare - Post products, tips and images related to aftercare! These will be helpful for your clients to read and look at. We all know if client's take care of their treated area properly, they will last longer.
- Clinic pictures - Post pictures of your clinic! New clients want to be reassured that your clinic and space of work is clean and approachable. An ‘Instagrammable’ space, this can increase the chances of your clients snapping a picture and sharing with their friends.
- Tips & tricks - Share useful beauty tips and tricks with your clients. For example, if you offer skin treatments, share some advice on how to tackle dry or oily skin. Clients will appreciate reading these and it will also help show your knowledge and skills.
- Client reviews - Share your client reviews! Whether it be on Trustpilot, Facebook or just a simple text, pop the positive review in a nice template and share it for your future clients to see on your page. Don't forget to actively ask your client's for reviews too! This way you can always have some content in the bag.
- Clinic values - Share images and quotes that show your clinic's values. Google ‘skin quotes’ or ‘beauty quotes’ and let your imagination run wild.
- Don’t have many pictures of your work yet? In the meantime, reassure your clients that you use safe products and equipment. Inform them on the types of your treatments you do, provide definitions and show them your equipment whether it be blades or machines and the different types of pigments. Videos and pictures of your practice matts can also make a great aesthetic post.
- Stories - don’t forget about using your stories! Create a story highlight section to show potential clients what treatments you offer, how to book a treatment, where your clinic is etc. Use the Q&A options to interact with your audience, find out what treatments they want to learn about.
